新たなるビールの世界へようこそ【アラブ首長国連邦（UAE）アブダビ編】

みなさん、こんにちは。初めまして、ビール好きのmyuyap（ミュヤップ）です。
今回は中の人に代わって、わたしから世界のビール旅行記「アラブ首長国連邦（UAE）アブダビ編」をお送りいたします！
UAEはイスラム教の戒律に乗っ取り、アルコール飲料の提供や製造が厳しく制限されています。ちなみに飲酒等に厳しい国だと同じく中東のクウェート、サウジアラビアが有名です。クウェートは飲酒行為、酒類の持ち込みは一切禁止されています。
同じく禁酒国であったサウジアラビアは今年2024年1月、70年ぶりに酒類が解禁され、イスラム教徒以外の外交官のみ利用できる酒屋がオープンしたそうです。一般人のわたしは利用できず残念・・・。
サウジアラビアの禁酒解禁は、観光とビジネスの拡大を目指す「ビジョン2030」構想の一環と言われています。ドラゴンボールのテーマパークも建設されるようなので、一般人への酒類の解禁をぜひお願いしたいです！！

話がそれてしまいましたが、UAEでは酒類規制の管理は各首長国に任されていて、アブダビ、ドバイではリカーライセンスを持つ飲食店に限り、酒類の提供が認められています。どうやら、このリカーライセンスを得るためには、とてもお金が掛かるようで、お酒を提供できる飲食店は、高級なところが多いです。
アブダビでは2021年に法律が改正され、認可を受けた業者に限りアブラビ内のレストランなどで消費するアルコール飲料を醸造できることになりました。ドバイ訪問の折に、アブダビまで足を伸ばして、Balmaghie Beverage Groupが設立したUAE初のビール醸造所「Craft by Side Hustle」に伺いました。
Craft by Side Hustleは、フォーシーズンズホテル アブダビアル・マリア・アイランドのガレリアにありました。とても高級な雰囲気です。
Side Hustleは以前より米国ペンシルベニア州でビールやウイスキーを製造していたからか、醸造を始めて3年の醸造所とは思えないとても安定した味わいでした。常時5～10種類程、タップが繋がっているそうです。
わたしのおすすめは、ドイツ産モルト、ザーツホップ、レモンドロップホップが使用されていると、シトラス感があるドリンカブルなラガー、CZECH mate RAGER（5.0%ABV）と、MANGO TRAFFIC JAM（5.5%ABV）というドイツ産ホップと大量のマンゴーピューレで醸造した、マンゴーとバナナの香りがするマンゴー味のヘフェヴァイスです。
アブダビは気温40℃を越えますが、室内はとても涼しいので、最初の一杯目はラガービールをグビグビといただき、そのあとはゆっくり楽しめるビールが良いかもしれません。
ビールでお腹がいっぱいで、あまり食べられませんでしたが、こちらではルイジアナ州南部の料理をいただけます。

最後に醸造所ツアーもしていただきました。
中東唯一のクラフトビール醸造所はラグジュアリーでした。アブダビには素敵なモスクもあるので、

By the way, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, also
in the Middle East, are famous for their strict drinking regulations.
In Kuwait, drinking alcohol and bringing
alcohol into the country are completely prohibited.Saudi Arabia, which also banned alcohol,
lifted the ban on alcohol for the first time in 70 years in January 2024, and a
liquor store that can only be used by non-Muslim diplomats has opened.Unfortunately, I, an ordinary person,
cannot use it.
The lifting of the alcohol ban in Saudi
Arabia is apparently part of "Vision 2030," which aims to expand
tourism and business. It seems that a Dragon Ball theme park is also under
construction, so I would like to ask for the lifting of the ban on alcohol for
ordinary people! ...As an aside, in the UAE, the management of alcohol
regulations is left to each emirate, and in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, only
restaurants with a liquor license can serve alcohol.Apparently it costs a lot of money to
obtain a liquor license, so most restaurants that can serve alcohol are
high-end establishments.
In Abu Dhabi, the law was amended in 2021,
and alcohol consumed in restaurants in Abu Dhabi can now be brewed by licensed
businesses.When I visited Dubai, I went to Abu Dhabi
and visited Craft by Side Hustle, the UAE's first brewery, founded by Balmagee
Beverage Group.
Craft by Side Hustle was located inside the
Galleria at the Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi Al Maryah Island. It has a very
luxurious atmosphere.Side Hustle used to produce beer and
whiskey in Pennsylvania, USA, so the taste is so consistent that it's hard to
believe that it's only been brewing for three years.There are 5 to 10 types of beer on tap at
all times.
I recommend the CZECH mate RAGER (5.0%
alcohol), a lager with a citrus flavor made with German malt, Saaz hops, and
Lemon Drop hops, and the MANGO TRAFFIC JAM (5.5% alcohol), a mango-flavored
hefeweiss with a mango and banana aroma made with plenty of German hops and
mango puree.The temperature in Abu Dhabi exceeds 40
degrees, but the room is very cool, so it might be a good idea to gulp down the
lager beer first and then slowly enjoy other beers.I was full from the beer so I couldn't eat
much, but they did serve southern Louisiana cuisine.
Finally, I toured the brewery.The only craft brewery in the Middle East
was amazing.
Abu Dhabi also has a great mosque, so if
you visit Abu Dhabi, be sure to enjoy some delicious beer at Craft by Side
Hustle.
